A MESSAGE FROM CANDIDATE CHRIS WILMOTH

Dear Dallas County Voters,

I am proud to be seeking election as Judge of Dallas County Probate Court 2. Running for Judge is a major new chapter in my involvement in public service. Service has been at the core of my work as a professional attorney and a community volunteer.  I want to bring my skills, experience and commitment to service to the courthouse, and I ask for your support in the 2010 General Election.

I firmly believe that I have the integrity, intellect, legal abilities and the sense of justice required to serve as your Judge. As I made the decision to run, I spoke to a number of trusted friends such as attorney and State Rep. Rafael Anchia, attorneys David Griggs, Rugger Burke and Scott McElhaney, and many others.  I was gratified that they felt I had the right qualities to be the Judge of Probate Court 2.

As an attorney at Baker Botts L.L.P., I have worked on highly complex cases where the stakes reached the billions, and I have handled more discrete matters involving hundreds of thousands of dollars. These cases required me to learn such disparate legal disciplines as bankruptcy, securities, employment and workers' compensation law in both federal and state court.

I maintain an active pro bono practice as well. Among other things, I have helped grandparents obtain legal custody of the grandchildren they are raising. I have written wills, living wills and trust instruments for elderly clients, and I have provided advice on corporate governance to a nonprofit. Before joining Baker Botts, I clerked for a federal judge and completed externships with the SEC and the FTC.

Over the last year, I actively participated in the Good Legal Clinics program that mounted over 20 free legal clinics throughout Dallas County and provided over 1500 living wills and medical power of attorney documents to citizens free of charge.

The probate courts are important.  They help to ensure that our wishes are carried out after we are gone.  Nothing could be more important.  As your Dallas County Probate Court Judge, I will respect the trust you have placed in me, and I will take my work very seriously.  I ask for your vote in November.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Chris Wilmoth
Candidate for Dallas County Probate Court 2
